TV Dresser top…

I think I promised a picture of this a long time ago… back story – I sanded this down thinking I’d just seal the wood and low and behold I found out the top wasn’t wood, it was laminate! And I sanded the grain right off the laminate thinking it was wood. Couldn’t seal that soooo….

004

Well, we actually had SUNSHINE the other day and I remembered to snap a couple photos! The top of this dresser/TV stand is … napkins! Camo napkins!! I used Modge-Podge to glue them down and then seal it. I ripped the straight lines off all the napkins and tore them into big chunks and started gluing them down with no plan. I love it. It feels like leather, it’s durable, it cleans up beautifully and it doesn’t show dust. I saved a pack of napkins and keep them in one of the drawers just in case I need to touch something up. So far I haven’t had to do a thing.

Busy weekend…

Not much crafting happened around here. Aside from starting a large needle felting project this is all I got done. My mind was mush last night. I wanted to make something but couldn’t think of anything…so I decided to make some “blanks”. These little snowpeople will eventually get finished for our Bazaar at church. The little hearts I made just because.

002

I taught another needle felting class on Thursday and it went great! I know I was much more relaxed!!! I had six people and we made the mushroom pendants and I sent them home with enough material to make one on their own. Phew. We also scheduled another class for March 6th if anyone in the area is interested.

In other news we went to the NWTF banquet (turkey) on Friday night and won some neat prizes. Hubbie came home with a new muzzle-loader and I came home with some new drink coasters. Those were our favorite prizes. Saturday Grant had an ice-fishing contest to attend and after we tore up the town and partied like rock stars until we fell into bed…exhausted…at around 9:30 PM! Sheesh, we are getting old-lol!!!

Well, that’s it for now – happy crafting!!!

PS: Mary…I am wondering what is going to become of that bird too! I seem to have lost my thick copper wire so that project is at a standstill. Bummer…

I guess it’s embroidery week…

008

I finished this embroidery today…and framed it today! Aaaaand…hung it…TODAY! Look out world I’m on a roll! Ok, Ok…it’s not centered perfectly in the frame and the frame itself might not stay that color…but this is a project I call good enough.

I picked up the frame at a thrift shop last year. It’s been hanging on the wall over my bed ever since then. Empty. And unpainted. Ugly.

001

002

Well, it’s funny how a project can get started. I had no intention of embroidering anything any time soon but I was on my computer to check and reply to emails and really, I don’t know how it happened but I ended up at Urban Threads. They have such cute embroidery designs! And this one only cost a dollar! woot woot! I guess you’ll be seeing a bit more embroidery from me in the future. I purchased three designs

Here are the other two. I’m going to do the one on the left in Redwork again and hang it above my bed – and the little monkey will be so cute in my daughter’s room…and my youngest son’s room…

If you remember a loooooonnnnngggg time ago I said I was going to decorate my bedroom. I’ve never decorated my bedroom. Ever. I’m 40 years old and I’ve never done it. To be fair I’ve never really decorated any room in my house…seems that I just pick stuff up at yard sales and thrift stores and that’s that. It’s no big deal…but the door on my bedroom is left open all the time and it is a room guests see when they go to the restroom. I’d just like it to look nice. So, one baby step at a time. I’ve been caulking the corners and now really am just wondering what color to paint the walls. I. Have. No. Idea. Cause I know it will stay that color for the next 20 years so I better like it!

Happy Crafting!!!

I have nothin…

new to show you from my adventures in needle felting. I do however have an embroidery to show you that I finished in December…

003

I was in a strange place in December. I mean I was home but I was really sad…I’m not going to go into detail…but embroidery was the perfect way for me to cope! I was a Redwork-embroidery-machine!!! I think it is a lovely craft…you have to pay attention just enough to keep your mind from wandering down paths you’d rather not take. And yet you don’t have to make any “decisions” – picking thread colors is just the worst for me!

Nativity

Here is the pattern, I got it from a Yahoo group – either a Redwork group or a general embroidery group…can’t remember! Right click on the pattern and save to computer to save. And here is a tip…I figured out how to print the patterns directly onto the fabric…from my printer!!!

Step 1 – Iron your fabric. A piece a little bigger than a standard piece of paper.

Step 2 – Spray a piece of heavy cardstock with a temporary spray adhesive. I use this.

Step 3 – Lay the fabric onto the sticky cardstock and smooth out any wrinkles. Trim your fabric to the same size as the cardstock. (cut off the fabric hanging over the edges)

Step 4 – Print!!!

Disclaimer: This works fine in my printer…don’t get angry with me if it doesn’t work in yours – lol!

Happy Crafting!!!

PS: Mary, I’ve been looking through this blog – I think you might like it too! I also came across this and even though you probably know everything there you might find a gem of info! (smile)

I have to do something so I don’t…

Mess around with the bird I’m dyeing!

008

Remember this bird? Well it’s now setting in dye. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I think I’ll get a nice ombre effect. You know, darker on the bottom and lighter at the top. I dyed it in a denim blue dye…it’s killing me not to mess with it!!!

Here are a couple more works-in-progress -

003

004

I just love Danish hearts. I think they need some more embellishment but I don’t know what to do! I know other crafters love the embellishment part of crafting…I don’t. I’d rather make a hundred of these hearts than finish any of them – lol! Well, we’ll see what I can come up with. I think I need to make one more to round the number out to three. We’ll see – that’s another thing about crafting – I don’t usually sit down and decide exactly what I’m going to do. I just mess around and then fix whatever I did until I like it!

OK, I can’t take it anymore – I’m going to go mess with the bird – have a good weekend!

Happy Crafting!

It’s time to…

Show you a Valentine’s heart I needle felted.

006

I was again inspired by a pin on Pinterest. lol. I’ve been working on a couple others that are completely different but inspired by this one. You’ll see in a couple days. I love adding the embroidery to the needle felting. This heart is felted very firmly and is hollow on the back. I’ve been experimenting with contours. Hmmm…hard to explain…maybe I’ll take a picture. I’d like to frame this but I’m having a hard time figuring out what I want the background to look like. Any ideas?

I think there is so much we can do with this craft!!! I will be having my niece stay with me for a few days next week and I’m thinking of lots of things I can make her to play with. Play food comes to mind first.

Well, I better get to the housework. It NEVER ENDS! I’m also a little more behind than usual. Do you ever have those days when you just can’t seem to get going? I had one of those yesterday. I think this is one of the hardest parts of being a stay-at-home-mom…self-motivation. Then I’ll have motivation at the craziest times! Like, I guarantee you I’ll be cleaning the basement on the first nice day of Spring! Happens every year!! Or when I have to leave the house for the day or weekend I have an almost uncontrollable urge to start a BIG project-like “Let’s paint the living room!” Why is that? I just wish I had that motivation on a normal everyday kind of a day. Weird.

Happy Crafting!!!

PS: Mary, I loved your comment! Keep them coming!!!!

Ready for Valentine’s Day!

002

I’ve packaged up some Valentine sweets for my peeps :). I think this is my new favorite way to wrap something. I was inspired by this pin on Pinterest. (And thanks to Julie for the lunch bags!) I got the tissue paper for the heart and border at Walmart for .15 cents a pack!! Gotta love those after-Christmas-bargains! Six sheets come in a pack and I didn’t even use one entire sheet for these gift bags. (And I picked up around 10 packs…should last a while)

Speaking of being inspired by pins on Pinerest here is something else I did – inspired by this pin!

007

GENIUS!!! (I personally can’t stand the thought of using toilet paper rolls so I use paper towel rolls and gift wrap rolls. I say each to his/her own…other people probably just have waaaaay cleaner bathrooms than I do – lol!

Happy Crafting!!

PS: Mary, I think I figured out the comment posting problem…why don’t you give posting a comment a try…it should be a lot easier! :) Love ya!

Bunny Embellished

001

And a back view -

002

(I always like the back view better! smile) I have one bunny done. I’m not happy with the nose or whiskers but after changing it more than once it’s gonna stay the way it is. A pink nose made the bunny look sick and a black nose was just too black so I went with brown. I will bring this to my next needle felting class and ask them if they’d like to make this next. I’ve made six so far (this is the only one that is embellished) and I think I finally figured out how to attach the ears. lol. This is an easy bunny but I learn some new techniques every time I make one. It’s funny how much of crafting is just “instinctive”, it’s hard to tell other people why I’m doing something a certain way. It gives crafting a new perspective for me. Fun!

006

I think I’ve mentioned before that the hardest part of crafting for me is to come up with an “original idea”. I’ve had some lovely email conversations with Gretel (who is an amazing needle felter) and looking at her work I’m inspired to break out of my box. I mentioned to her that I have to be inspired by something. So I started looking around my house for that “something” and decided my collection of wood figurines would be a perfect place to start. Phew – it’s harder than it sounds. When I started this bird it looked in turns like an alligator and a snake. Sloooowly it started to take shape and I’m almost happy with it. I don’t know what color it will be in the end. I’m thinking a nice medium blue? While I’d much rather felt entirely with the chosen color of my project I don’t because it’s much more economical to use “natural” and cover it with a color later. It just means more poking. A lot more poking. And I have to figure out how to add legs. I like the copper wire legs on the original and I think I’ll go with that. Ahhhh…these are fun problems to try to figure out!

Post with a lot of pictures…

Here is what I’m working on now – I made one for my mother-in-law when she came for the Super Bowl and thought they might make a good project for my third needle felting class. (I have two classes scheduled for February – a mushroom class and a pendent class) When trying to decide what to make for a class, I make the same thing over and over again and try to pay attention to what I’m doing so I can explain it clearly to the ladies attending the class. These little guys/gals aren’t done yet. I’m working on a fourth and then I will “embellish” them and see what happens. I never have a clear idea in my mind of how something is going to turn out. I envy those who start with a sketch and then “poof” after hours and hours of poking with the needle felting needle they have their sketch in 3-d! Amazing.

015

013

But what is taking up a bigger…HUGER chunk of my time is CLEANING!!! It started innocently enough…my friend Julie brought me this organizer that they no longer needed. I was thrilled – and started filling it up.

IMAG0432

It has sixty drawers! All of a sudden I’m in the basement bringing up stuff I had stored in peanut butter jars and baskets and I’m in awe that it will all fit in one place! I decide to store it in my office. When I get into my office I realize there is NO WHERE this will fit. Not because the organizer is too huge but because my office is such a mess.

IMAG0433

This rack in particular was a jumble of mess. I tend to dive into projects with little or no planning so this is the only before picture…taken with my cell phone. This shelving unit actually has 5 shelves and every single one was packed with clutter. Well, I decided the whole thing had to go. So I took everything off the shelves and put it on my kitchen table and started to sort. (Which meant my kitchen was now in the disaster zone as well.)

017

Um, this is an actual “after photo”. This is where that shelving unit was. I shifted this shelf over from another wall. This room is still, and always probably will be, a work in progress. Sheesh…does it ever end?! I have about half of those little drawers filled and LOVE it! I want another, but I’d like it to be a bit deeper…maybe I’ll ask for it for Valentine’s Day…really – this kind of thing makes my heart go pitter pat!

 018

Here’s the other wall. Still a mess but it is waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy less messy today than it was yesterday! That cupboard door on the left drives me nuts because it won’t stay shut. I need a handyman. Oh-here is a funny story about my filing cabinet. OK, it’s a bit embarrassing to admit but I couldn’t really get into the two bottom drawers cause there was so much crap stacked against it. Well, when I was going through a stack of papers on my desk I kept coming across scroll saw patterns and found myself trying to figure out how to MAKE some sort of container where I could store all these patterns in one place. When I jammed my hip against the filing cabinet it came to me –duh- FILE THEM! This teaches me to use what I have before trying to reinvent the wheel. lol!

Today I’m wiping down all horizontal surfaces and for some reason I started with mopping the floor. But I could probably do it again. The floor is plywood and it can really hold the dust. We have a floating laminate floor in the shed for this room but I’m thinking I’d like a painted floor instead. That way I can change it whenever I want. (And I can just paint around the filing cabinet and the cabinets instead of moving them out of the room.) I’ve always wanted a painted rug. Then there is more sorting to do. Oh – and all that craft clutter went to the basement…so now my basement has entered the disaster zone as well!

Happy Crafting! (I hope you can find the time!)

Class…

My first needle felting class went great!!! I didn’t take any pictures as I was too nervous. I was most nervous that the ladies wouldn’t feel they were “getting their money” out of the class…however, they seemed to have a great time! PHEW! I couldn’t have had a better group to start with. Now, that major hurdle is done…and we hope to schedule two more classes this month. I’d even do more if asked. I love needle felting! Here is another little pendent…

006

We will be working on the previously posted mushroom pendent next class. I’m trying to come up with new ideas all the time and it. is. hard. Well, I think I’ll take a poll at the next class and let the ladies help me/us decide what we are going to work on next time.

I took the money I made and plowed it back into supplies. Even if I don’t do this for very long the supplies won’t get wasted…I’d use them…eventually…(smile). Well, that’s it for now. Today I’m going to the library to craft for the library’s store…I can’t wait to see what we come up with. We are going to focus on Valentine’s Day crafts.

Happy Crafting!!
